Dog Canine Development and Anatomy

Where did dogs evolve from; We don't know. Many theories, including the one that a dog was once a domesticated jackal, have been discredited. In the years I have been investigating this question, I have yet to come up with a satisfactory answer. It is known, however, that dogs did not evolve from wolves, but rather both evolved from some common ancestor. To put it another way, a wolf is to a dog what a chimpanzee is to man. The latter did not "descend" from the former. Each pair represents the end products of parallel evolution. But all breeds of dogs do belong to the same species, as was recently proved when a dachshund bitch gave birth to a healthy litter sired by a St Bernard! When a dog gives birth to a litter of puppies, she does all the training, instilling them with the basic techniques of survival, until they're about six weeks old. Then it's time for you to take over. Naturally, if a puppy has been taken from his mother before that time, it's u...

Dog Training and The Love Fallacy

One of the chief reasons we have difficulty understanding dogs is, paradoxically, because.they've been associated with us for such a long time-so much so that we take them for granted. The first evidence of dog's association with man is found at the Mesolithic site of Star Carr in England about 9500 B.c when the dog's superior sense of smell probably directed man to within bowshot of food animals. Recently in the ruins of Pompeii the lava casts of the bodies of a little boy and his huge dog were found. On the dog's bronze collar was the still legible inscription: "This dog has saved his little master three times once from fire, once from drowning, and once from thieves." The dog had obviously tried to rescue his master once more. * Very few domestic animals were found in the archaeological excavations of Pompeii. Animals instinctively know of impending catastrophe, and obviously most of the dogs fled before the eruption occurred. The night before th...

The Most Important You Would Train A Dog

I think it's really interesting for me as a dog trainer to work with so many dogs and see that every dog is unique and as long as you take the time to connect with them it's not about the breed it's about you as the trainer and your relationship with your dog Sadie still gets a little distracted but she's only eight months old watch how patient he is a distant filly and we just want to get into her area it's like a little play but see how hard he's a big guy but he's down there I died with it you see yeah lots of love genuine interaction right there I think they need to practice leave it a little bit though don't get there in a second Abby gets a little reluctant of stranger normally she's very guarded. when I come up so we've made progress on that that's why socialization is so important for a dog especially when they're under 8 months I think Abby's only 5 months old 6 months, 6 months old if your dog is responsive to play use...

The Basics to Train Any Dog

Image
we're going to go over one of the most commonly used commands which is how to teach your dog to sit the first step is to use a tree to lure your dog into position and your end goal will be to have your dog wean off the hand signal and respond to your voice command alone first step in teaching thus it is to lure the dog into position using the tree so we're gonna hold the tree to the dog's nose and guide him up into the sit by holding the tree up and over his head good boy good boy make sure their bud is firmly on the ground before you praise and get the treat then notice also the first two times that I did the exercise with Spike I didn't say the word I just want to see if they would be predictable with the hands motion once they're sort of predictable with that when you good boy you raise the treat over. their head that they're gonna put their blood on the ground you can start to parent with the word so you want to make sure you're using your command j...
